Chemical composition:  timol ~50%. Also present: a-pinene, b-pinenemyrceneα-phellandrene-terpinene 7%,  limonene 15%, b-phellandreng-terpinene 25%. p-cymol 25%.  carvacrol 3%

Aroma
Aroma: strong smell of thymol, herbaceous-spicy medicinal smell, similar to oil of oregano and thyme.
 All parts of this herb have a very strong smell, which is why it is also known as Ugragandha in Sanskrit. The seeds have a bitter and pungent taste, somewhat reminiscent of oregano, and because of their strong aromatic essence, they are often added to curries.
