 Our Organic Balsam Copaiba Essential Oil is steam distilled from a processed amber resin harvested from the trunks of Copaifera officinalis tropical evergreen trees, commonly referred to as Copaiba (Copal) Balsam, which grow deep in the Brazilian rainforest. The splendid Copaiba are impressive, densely branched leguminous trees, native primarily to South America, with over 35 species adapted to the continent's unique terrain.
 If an incision is made on a tree trunk, then a resinous juice will begin to stand out - resin, called copai balsam. After decanting, the copaiba resin is distilled to produce a clear essential oil that has a host of amazing health benefits.
 
 The main component - caryophyllene - is useful for the nervous, cardiovascular and immune systems.* It is also a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system. Intense research is currently underway on the use of this essential oil for lung and skin cancer, and the results are very encouraging - copai balsam is indeed effective in treating some types of these cancers, such as melanoma and basal cell carcinoma.
 
 Indigenous tribes in the northwestern part of the Amazon used the resin of the copaifer tree externally as a wound healing agent, to treat skin ulcers, psoriasis, and gonorrhea.
 
 Until now, the indigenous people of South America use copaiba as incense in temples and cleanse their homes from harmful energies.
 
 The first mention of the resinous juice of copaifera in the medicine of European countries dates back to 1625. At this time, Catholic monks brought the resin of the plant from the New World (it was called "Jesuit balm"). Resin "balm of the Jesuits" was used to treat chronic cystitis, diarrhea, bronchitis, and also as an external agent in the treatment of hemorrhoids. In 1836, Copaifera balm was introduced into the Amsterdam Pharmacopoeia.
